Agape in Action: Quiche, Guatemala

Agape in Action’s mission is to care for physical ailments and to go beyond the stethoscope to minister to the spiritual and emotional needs of the indigenous Mayan people in the mountainous Quiché's province of the Central Highlands of Guatemala. This is accomplished by medical ministry outreach in rural villages and by supporting hospitals, clinics and missionary partners. The Woodlands UMC has sent many mission teams for Agape over the years.

Camino Global - Guatemala: Sywulkas

Paul and Jean Sywulka have served at the Central American Theological Seminary (SETECA) in Guatemala since 1967. Paul teaches at the seminary and is general secretary of the Association for Evangelical Theological Education in Latin America (AETAL). Currently, Paul teaches courses in New Testament and Theological Education, and Jean helps host visiting teachers and groups, and serves as project coordinator for the school.

Casa Para Ninos Aleluya: Clarks

Casa Para Ninos is a children’s home that cares for over 400 abused, neglected, and abandoned children near Guatemala City. God has done more here than just this ministry. He has allowed Mike and Dottie Clark to build over 50 churches, pastors' homes and Sunday school buildings - far beyond anything that they could ever imagine or pray for.

Family Legacy - Zambia orphanage

International Justice Mission

IJM is a global organization that protects the poor from violence in the developing world. The global team includes more than 750 lawyers, investigators, social workers, community activists and other professionals at work through 17 field offices.

International Leadership Institute

As Colombia National Director, Dr. Juan Bravo's position reflects ILI’s growing presence in Latin America and the urgent request for ILI leadership and discipleship training in this strategic region of the world. Juan’s wife, Adriana, a gifted writer and journalist, joins her husband in this faith venture.

Living Water International

Water is the foundation for all other levels of development. For the millions of people throughout the developing world, safe water can transform lives. The Woodlands UMC supports Living Water International annually by sending a mission team, usually to Central America, and by providing the funds to drill a water well.

Methodist Children’s Home provides services to children and youth daily through residential care, foster care and other services.
There are 13 Family Outreach offices located across Texas and New Mexico.

Methodist Church of Costa Rica: Zirkels

In 1995, Ray and Lidia Zirkel were invited by Bishop Luis Palomo to minister with the Methodist Church in Costa Rica. Ray is an ordained elder and serves as a professor at the Evangelical Methodist Seminary. They host about 25 short-term mission teams each year who work on a variety of church-related ministries. Our church provides financial support to the Zirkels and has sent several short-term teams to work with them.

One Mission Society

The Christian Union Sports Club has 40+ coaches who shed Christ’s light right where their kids are not only as soccer mentors, but also life mentors. Mark Wittig serves as Executive Director with the Christian Union Sports Ministry in Medellín, Colombia. His ministry involves administration and mentoring staff, together with evangelism and discipleship.

One Mission Society: The Banales

Jose and Audrey Banales serve as the South Regional Directors for One Mission Society, leading lead mission teams to Mexico, Haiti and Africa. The Banales visit with pastors, missions committees, small groups, college students and individuals who have an interest in knowing more about how God is using One Mission Society in 51 countries around the world.

One Mission Society: The Hogrefes

Jim and Karen Hogrefe train leaders and plant churches in India and beyond. Jim Hogrefe coordinates several of the training programs within Every Community for Christ, the church multiplication catalyst of One Mission Society, specifically interactive adult learning and the use of storytelling for training oral learners.

Overseas Council Seminary, Biblical Seminary of Colombia

BSC aims to grow the Church in Colombia with strong foundations, deeply committed believers and trained leaders. The work of BSC is critically important for providing a theological foundation for the growing church in Colombia & Latin America. The school passed demanding government accreditation and is one of the most prestigious educational centers in Colombia. Our church supports BSC with student scholarships.

Overseas Council Seminary, Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology

EGST exists to equip Christ-like women and men through theological studies and to stimulate research for the service of Church and society in Ethiopia and beyond. EGST’s focus includes developing locan and international scholars in areas of leadership, management, stewardship, development and related fields in connection with theology. Our church supports ETSC with student scholarships.

Overseas Council Seminary, Evangelical Seminary for Pastoral Education

ESEPA students and alumni are involved in pastoring local churches and international ministries based in Costa Rica. Some serve abroad as church planters and translators. Many more serve in their local churches. ESEPA created a Christian Education Center to strengthen the community’s churches, parents and schools through education. TOur church supports ESEPA with student scholarships.

Overseas Council Seminary, Evangelical Theological Seminary

ETS is the flagship among evangelical schools in Eastern Europe. The seminary seeks to train a new generation of leadership for the Church emerging from Communist oppression. ETS plays a key role in operating AGAPE relief ministries, publishing Christian literature, developing camps for children, hosting Christian symposia. Our church supports ETS with student scholarships and short-term teams to assist in the seminary library.

Overseas Council Seminary, Evangelical Theological Seminary

Cairo The seminary has become a strategic center for training pastors, evangelists, missionaries and teachers in the region. ETSC has the largest student enrollment (300+ students) of all schools in the region. Actively involved with Theological Education for Arab Christians at Home (TEACH), a joint venture with SAT-7 Christian television network. Our church supports ETSC with student scholarships.

Overseas Council Seminary, International Faculty of Theological Education

Argentina FIET offers a wide range of programs from a Certificate in Theology to the PhD, and their reach is extensive worldwide. FIET’s strong leadership makes it a strategic OC partner in South America. They are doing an outstanding job of training Christian leaders and multiplying God’s Kingdom in Argentina and beyond. The Woodlands UMC supports FIET with student scholarships.

Overseas Council Seminary, Methodist Seminary of Cuba

In spite of long-term economic challenges and years of repression of the Christian church by the Cuban government, the resolve to share the Gospel with spiritually hungry souls in Cuba is the passion of MSC’s students and graduates. MSC has 33 seminary extensions throughout Cuba, with 1,700 students studying through distance learning programs. Our church supports MSC with scholarships for students.

Overseas Council Seminary, Trivelius Institute

Trivelius Institute was founded by a small group of key Christian leaders. TI’s mission to produce well-rounded and capable Kingdom workers for Bulgaria, the Balkans and beyond is being accomplished through accessible, biblical, and practical training for ministry in all denominations and for service around the world, including the development of a new online program. Our church supports TI with student scholarships.

Overseas Council, China Book Project

The Woodlands UMC supports the Church in China by providing over 2,000 priority resources in Mandarin to Chinese Christian scholars. The purpose of this project is to strengthen learning of pastors and provide for scholarly research opportunities.

SAT7 Television

Through the power of satellite television, available to all, SAT7 is bringing a message of hope and love directly into the lives of millions of people, every day in the Middle East/North Africa. Their channels (broadcast in Arabic, Farsi, Turk and a channel dedicated to children’s programming) bypass strict government censorship and side-step the challenge of illiteracy.


SIM has been launching workers into ministry around the world since 1893. They are committedto cultivating multicultural mission movements that respond to need, proclaim the gospel, and equip the Church.

Transworld Radio media outreach engages millions in 160 countries with biblical truth in their heart language. For more than 60 years, God has equipped TWR to lead people from doubt to Christ, faithful to the Scriptures and committed to the Kingdom.


Republic of Congo In 2005, Paul and Marty Law were asked to help rebuild the church after years of war destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure. Schools, clinics and hospitals need to be restored. A priority was placed on “the spiritual renewal of the Church.” Paul and Marty were drawn to serve in the restoration of the UMC in the DR Congo!
